The local judge, Don Carlo, is not pleased either, because it is evidently better to pocket a regular salary without working than bothering to earn it. So this day, there is no straight bee line from breakfast to siesta, but he has to deal with one of these dirty creatures from the gutter. Carmen cannot expect much leniency from the people she is annoying.
Muttering curses, Don Carlo dons robe and wig and enters the court room. With a groan he eases his heavy bulk into the high chair and motions to the police officer at the side door to bring in the – usually grubby –- defendant. The stenographer does not expect a busy morning. Yawning, he sharpens a few goose feathers anyway. One can hear the flies circling the sticky air of the room.
Surprised at the sight of Carmen, the judge’s bad mood is mollified a bit. That woman is truly a beauty! Instead of giving her short shrift, he decides to spend a little time with this pretty morsel.
“Please state your name and address for the court.”

Despite of his fury, the judge has to admit that she is sinking her own boat with flying colours.
